From the highlands of Ecuador and Bolivia, they brought a resilience seasoned with hope—and from the ashes, they watched their American Dream rise like fresh bread from the oven: warm, unexpected, and entirely their own.

One block away from Roosevelt avenue, in a brighter corner of Jackson Heights, a new culinary venture was born in 2018, driven by the determination and entrepreneurial spirit of four dreamers: Glenda Tenesaca and her partner Christian Godoy, both from Ecuador, alongside their Bolivian friends Charles Aleaga and his partner Daisy Morales, whom they met while working together in the restaurant industry.

From the Ashes: A New Beginning for a Neighborhood Landmark

Fate had its own plans for the four partners, guiding their dream toward an unexpected opportunity. In April 2014, a devastating fire swept through the Bruson Building, bringing an abrupt end to several local businesses—including Armondo’s, a beloved Italian restaurant that had served the neighborhood for over four decades. Deeply affected by the tragedy, Armondo’s owners chose to relocate to a more affordable space.

It was then that Glenda, Christian, Charles, and Daisy—all seasoned professionals in the restaurant and business world—made a bold decision: to take over the historic site and transform it into something entirely new. Bound by a shared vision, the Ecuadorian-Bolivian team set out to create a restaurant that would not only honor the rich tradition of Italian cuisine, which they knew intimately, but also serve as a welcoming space where the area’s diverse community could gather, celebrate, and feel at home.

What followed was a year of quiet yet unwavering effort. While the doors remained closed to the public, the team poured their time, resources, and heart into rebuilding the space from the ground up. Month after month, they paid rent without generating income—driven solely by the conviction that they were building something meaningful.

Thus, Romeo’s was born: not just a restaurant, but a symbol of resilience, collaboration, and a deep love for food. Since opening its doors in 2018, Romeo’s has flourished as a gathering place for neighbors, families, and visitors alike—bringing to every table the flavors of Italian tradition infused with the soul of Latin America.

De las cenizas un nuevo comienzo para un ícono del vecindario

El destino quiso que el sueño de los cuatro socios encontrara su oportunidad en un lugar inesperado. En abril de 2014, un devastador incendio en el edificio Bruson puso fin a varios negocios, incluyendo al restaurante italiano Armondo 's, que había sido parte del vecindario durante más de cuatro décadas. Sus propietarios, afectados por la tragedia, optaron por trasladarse a un local con una renta más económica.

Fue entonces cuando Glenda, Christian, Charles y Daisy, -todos con años de experiencia en la industria restaurantera y empresarial-,  decidieron dar un paso valiente: tomar las riendas de ese espacio marcado por la historia y transformarlo en algo nuevo.

Unidos por una visión compartida, el grupo de emprendedores ecuatoriano-boliviano, decidió dar vida a un restaurante que no sólo ofreciera lo mejor de la cocina tradicional italiana, a la que conocían bien profesionalmente, sino también un espacio donde la diversa comunidad del área pudiera reunirse, celebrar y sentirse como en casa.

Even the humble Chicken Soup from Romeo's prix fixe lunch menu carries the warmth of home and the refined elegance of European cuisine. Incluso la humilde Sopa de Pollo del menú de almuerzo prix fixe de Romeo's lleva consigo el calor del hogar y la elegancia refinada de la cocina europea.

Lo que siguió fue un año de esfuerzo silencioso pero constante. Mientras el local permanecía cerrado al público, el equipo invertía tiempo, recursos y corazón en reconstruirlo desde sus cimientos. Pagaban el alquiler mes a mes, sin ingresos, guiados únicamente por la convicción de que estaban creando algo especial.

Crema di Zucca, una delicada y aterciopelada sopa a base de calabaza, con zanahoria y jengibre, ideal para la temporada fria, es uno de los platos que incluye el especial de almuerzo de Romeo's.

Así nació Romeo 's: no solo un restaurante, sino un símbolo de resiliencia, colaboración y amor por la cocina. Romeo's version of the famous Brasato di Manzo con Risotto alla Milanese, is an elegant and impressive dish which presents a succulent, juicy beef rib, slowly braised in red wine and herbs slightly sweet sauce, paired with a golden creamy risotto with a delicate fragance from zafferano (saffron).

Uruguayan baritone Fernando Pirez, renowned for his stage presence and vocal versatility, delivers a vibrant repertoire ranging from Tango and Milonga to Bachata and Latin American classics by artists like Luis Miguel and Juan Gabriel. His interactive show invites everyone to sing along, reminisce, and celebrate the joy of life.

Uruguayan baritone Fernando Pirez, renowned for his stage presence and vocal versatility, delivers a vibrant repertoire ranging from Tango and Milonga to Bachata and Latin American classics.

Romeo’s live entertainment also features a charismatic tribute to Elvis Presley, as well as a special performance by Alex Bautista, son of legendary singer-songwriter Segundo Bautista. In this show, Alex shares the stage with his wife, the talented Ecuadorian singer Ximena Ibarra, whose voice and presence bring a vibrant and emotional touch to every performance. Together, they offer a dynamic fusion of English and Spanish music that captivates audiences and transforms each evening into an unforgettable celebration.
